Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)
I graduated with a printed and woven textiles degree from SIAD in 2000. I began working for Designers Guild before continuing my design career with Cameron Broom, based in south London. During my five years with the company I became principal designer and completed a wide range of projects including over 90 domestic properties, 5 offices, three commissions for The Hurlingham Club and the complete renovation of 28 Portland Place.
In September 2006 along with my business partner Helen Wright, I launched Rendall & Wright. From our Suffolk based studio we have domestic, hotel and spa projects across the UK.
How would you describe your personal interior design style?
Sympathetic
Understated
Elegant
Where does your design inspiration come from?
I take great inspiration from the natural landscapes which surround each project location. Colour combinations, textures, pattern and form found is translated into design; this produces a scheme which relates to its environment and adds a true sense of provenance to the interior.
In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Designers are environmentally aware, this is resulting in clients investing in beautifully crafted pieces with longevity rather than the throwaway culture seen in recent years.
Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2013 and beyond.
Architecture and structure of the building
Function and demands on the space
Storage
The environment
The finish
