The Hong Kong Jockey Club, perhaps the most recognized brand name in Hong Kong and Asia as well as being in the top ranks of international horse racing events. As more and more members of the Club were developing business in the People’s Republic of China, the Club determined that it was opportune to develop a unique Clubhouse facility in Beijing as a “home away from home” for its members. The site for this Clubhouse was a large 16,200 square metre site in the centre of Beijing and within two kilometres of the worldrenowned Forbidden City.
We believe that the design works so well as the Clubhouse building visually responds to the public and cultural context of the historic Chinese city of Beijing with a combination of traditionally inspired forms together with modern forms. The design goals were focused on the establishment of a sense of belonging for this development within the rapid urbanization of Beijing.
