It is with great pleasure that design et al announce the successful shortlist for Juliette Byrne for the Ski Chalet Award in the ID&A Awards 2015. The clients commissioned Juliette Byrne to carry out complete renovation of an unmodernised ski chalet in the St Martin de Bellville area of the Trois Valley and redesign the internal room layouts and carry out all of the interior design work.
The designers were restricted by the original yellow pine clad walls but overcame this by re sanding and applying a grey wash to create a more contemporary and warm feel to the chalet. All the main living areas were opened up so that the space flowed through and allowed the views to be created. New windows were installed to the rear and ceiling beam detailings were fitted sto ensure that down lights could be concealed. The study seating area had a chimney breast fitted to give a focal point to the room and this was clad in stone with integrated log storage and seating built in. The bedrooms were clad in antique wood and stained to match the rest of the reception areas. New ensuite bathrooms were fitted and a large industrial style kitchen was installed.
A banquette seating area was created which allows for up to 18 guests and an aluminium stencilled bar was designed and built to compliment the space. All of the beams had concealed lighting fitted on the first floor and soft seating was built in with additional armchairs and games tables adjoining.
The very top floor of the chalet had a separate entrance built so that it could be accessed from the outside or internally from the main house. A stunning spa can be found in the basement and has been fitted with metallic texture tiles and a plunge pool.
The overall feel is one of elegance with warmth and particular attention has been paid to use natural materials within the soft furnishings such as suede and linens. Local materials and craftsmen were used wherever possible to create a wonderful classic contemporary ski environment.
