design et al are delighted to announce that Laura U have been shortlisted for design et al Global Design Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2016
With the renovation of this 1980’s home, the homeowners wanted a sophisticated style while maintaining much of the original structure of the house. Some areas of the home were fully renovated while others were cosmetically altered. Laura U Interior Design worked with the architect, builder and homeowner throughout the entire process to develop a cohesive design.
The Great Room is a favorite of the home – This room originally served as a grand library and trophy room and was encased in red mahogany walls from floor to ceiling. We worked with a local wood floor company to refinish entire space. The process including stripping the original stain and bleaching to wood to achieve an updated greige stain on the walls and ceiling beams. The black paneled gallery was designed as a dramatic surprise for guests as they approached this grand entertainment space.
The floor, which includes Thassos Marble, Crema Marfil marble and Absolute Black granite, draws the eye to the handsomely appointed bar which is finished with ebonized stained cabinetry. Other details include the home’s original handrail, comprised of brass and iron, which was modified to meet today’s codes and standards. The marble clad & antique mirror fireplace surround was a welcomed relief to the stained walls. The design is tailored, airy and perfectly fitting for a young family that loves to entertain both philanthropically as well as for friends and family.
