Liberty Entertainment Group have been shortlisted for Restaurant – Global Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2020.
Created in partnership with hospitality icon Nick Di Donato of the Liberty Entertainment Group, Don Alfonso 1890 Toronto is the first North American location of world-renowned Michelin Star Chefs Alfonso and Ernesto Iaccarino’s Don Alfonso 1890. Housed in the original Consumer’s Gas Building of 1852, the restaurant is characterized by its modernity, Mediterranean flare and the exceptional quality of the raw materials used.
The space is designed to evoke a sense of elegance and sophistication and acts as a canvas for the food it presents. Every detail and every piece of furniture has been crafted from finest materials, many of which were imported directly from Italy. One of the key elements in all projects is to incorporate signature art pieces that will create conversation. The centrepiece of the dining room is titled “Crane” by renowned artist Philippe Pasqua. The one of a kind piece offers a unique juxtaposition to the elegance of its surroundings with a contemporary piece. This piece was purchased specifically for this restaurant project from Zemach contemporary art in Tel Aviv. The centrepiece of the heritage Italianate and Neo-Renaissance style building is the eye-catching open kitchen. Half encased in glass; the gleaming state-of-the-art kitchen is the culinary team prepares the perfectly plated dishes on the eight-course tasting menu.
The design works well as it showcases the architectural details of the heritage building, with more contemporary elements and finishes. The space is a true reflection of the Don Alfonso 1890 philosophy. From the moment a guest enters, they get a sense that they are about to have a memorable, one of a kind, dining experience.
Located in the heart of downtown Toronto’s Financial District, the design of Don Alfonso 1890 was intended to juxtapose the classic heritage architecture of the building with the modernity of the contemporary detailing, like the original location on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. It pays tribute to the heritage architecture, which speaks to Toronto’s illustrious past, while reflecting the modernity of a modern cosmopolitan city.
