For over 30 years, Visual Comfort has produced lighting with some of the most influential names in design such as American designer, Thomas O’Brien. O’Brien is an award-winning interior and home furnishings designer based in New York City. He is the founder and President of Aero Studios, one of America’s leading design firms, and the proprietor of Aero Ltd., the influential Soho home boutique that is the retail extension of the studio.
Since establishing Aero in 1992, O’Brien has been celebrated for translating modernism into a warm and liveable style. The coupling of public and private design practices is central to O’Brien’s philosophy. He borrows from the 19th century European tradition of the gallerist, guided by personal and eclectic tastes, funnelling his many interests through a distinctive modernism filter. This mix of modern and traditional ideas extends to his brand of home furnishings, with furniture and lighting being among other products, giftware, accessories, and plumbing made for both fine and daily living. In this arena, O’Brien was one of the first designers of his generation to create a broad home brand for consumers in a series of partnerships with heritage manufacturers.
O’Brien’s extensive lighting collection for Visual Comfort interprets the full spectrum of antique to modern to industrial designs in luxurious and unexpected ways, as represented in the Osiris Chandelier. With its masculine appeal and bold geometric elements, the Osiris finds a modern feeling with concentric circular shapes, creating a new graphic style. Osiris was born from the details of a simple, vintage sconce with a clean low dish-shaped metal diffuser into a dramatic new form that is both handsome and sophisticated.
The Osiris is a simple yet elegant silhouette with a fresh, honest character of brass and bronze materials; integrating into any environment with perfect proportions and understated details, it’s versatility and usage are limitless.
