Louis Henri are the latest company to make the shortlist of the International Product Design Awards 2013. Their piece (shortlisted into the Chair category) was designed by Louis himself and was realised by his brother in South Africa.
In Africa, millipedes and centipedes are affectionately referred to as Shongololos, a word derived from the Zulu ukushonga meaning “to roll up”.

The entire 56 legs of the Shongololo were individually hand turned in Walnut, and the frame is mades using a cold curling process where this layers of Walnut sheets are moulded into a custom made frame, it then is upholstered in London using eelskin panels and accented with small silver studs.
