Congratulations to Martha’s Vineyard Interior Design shortlisted for Pool House Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2017

design et al are delighted to announce that Martha’s Vineyard Interior Design have been shortlisted for Pool House Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.

The pool house added to the back of this traditional Edgartown home includes a guest room, bathroom, and powder room, providing the homeowners with ample space for guests to mingle or watch their children to play. With floor to ceiling glass stacking doors open, the space becomes a true extension of the pool terrace.
Pool House 1The salt and pepper granite stone floor directly connect the interior and exterior creating an indoor/outdoor experience. Modern furnishings with clean lines were selected for the interior of this addition as it anchors the modern extension to this traditional home. The bright colour palette, woven lounge chairs, and slipcovered sectional create an environment that is undeniably fun and focused on entertaining.  The cluster of pendants by Mooi offer a sense of functional art while the bright blue artwork on the wall titled “Dark” by Steve McPherson is a definite conversation piece.  Made solely of plastic debris that washes up on UK coast, this colour-blind artist masterfully combines discarded items to create works of art.
Pool House 2The dramatic outdoor shower was designed to fit as many kids as possible to rinse off after a day at the pool and connects to a changing room inside with walls that are clad with slabs of Neolith creating a truly water proof environment that can withstand wet towels and bathing suits.  The modest size powder room becomes a buzz worthy space with the use of buoy orange plumbing fixtures and a white floor to ceiling textured stone wall. Framed bathing suits from when the children were babies adorn the walls leading to the bedroom which features decorative accents in the inviting pool blue outside it’s window.
