Congratulations to Martha’s Vineyard Interior Design shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Global Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2017

design et al are delighted to announce that Martha’s Vineyard Interior Design have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Global Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017.

This traditional New England home is nestled in the village of Edgartown on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. The new owners were interested in upgrading and modernizing the existing house and increasing the overall space with the addition of a modern pool house at the rear of the property. The traditional aesthetic of the existing house was retained and the new pool house was seamlessly integrated into the overall design. A new circulation spine connects the existing to the new spaces. This modern intervention is clearly defined in the layout by a change in flooring and ceiling material. All public spaces are connected by and peel off the circulation spine.
Interior Design Scheme 6The interior of the house bodes a bright colour palette, artistic accent chairs, and an oversized sectional that defines the living room where the family and guests gather. The pool house furnishing accommodates the indoor / outdoor environment and are undeniably fun and focused on entertaining. The entry and dining room incorporate both traditional and modern furnishing further defining the concept of the traditional house with modern influences.
Interior Design Scheme 9The dramatic outdoor shower was designed for a rinse off after a day at the pool and connects to a changing room inside with walls that are clad with slabs of Neolith creating a truly water proof environment that can withstand wet towels and bathing suits. The modest size powder room becomes a buzz worthy space with the use of buoy orange plumbing fixtures and a white floor to ceiling textured stone wall. Framed bathing suits from when the children were babies adorn the walls leading to the bedroom which features decorative accents in the inviting pool blue outside its window.
Interior Design Scheme 12The clients wish list was a home that would fit their personal styles which differs between husband and wife. One has a love for modern architecture while the other appreciates traditional style often found in Edgartown. The modern addition is seamlessly connected within the original structure with the first introduction being the 6′ glass pivoting front door and follows a long hallway of concrete and glass leading to the pool house addition. Martha’s Vineyard Interior Design’s clients usually live in London, but for the summer months, reside on Martha’s Vineyard. As they are design and art enthusiasts, this project was inspiring as the designers combined the design influences brought from the UK with the Vineyard summer aesthetic.
