Congratulations to Maurizio Pellizzoni Ltd shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Americas Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2018

design et al are delighted to announce that Maurizio Pellizzoni Ltd have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Americas Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.

‘The City of Roses’, Portland, Oregon, USA, was this family’s brand new 2690 sq. ft. home having relocated from the UK. A destination of natural marvels, Maurizio Pellizzoni was commissioned to redesign a four bedroomed detached property with breath-taking views where Mount Hood dominates the horizon. The house indulges in spectacular views facing the Willamette River in a wilderness of organic scenery, where the family enjoys an organic approach to living and often kayak in the river. A very private, secluded spot drenched in natural greenery, the house is protected by nature that keeps this family home very private.

Maurizio Pellizzoni’s debut USA project saw him spend a fortnight at the property getting to know the West Coast and this Portland suburb. Meeting local suppliers and taking trips into the city with the client were all essential parts of the initial design process. The client’s brief was to create a cosy and inviting home and Maurizio drew inspiration from the surrounding natural beauty for the interior. The location and surroundings played an important role in Maurizio’s design and he set out to invite as much of the outdoors into the interior as possible. With the exception of one blackout blind, he chose not to use any window dressings and little artwork to maximise the client’s appreciation of the beauty outdoors, welcoming the ever-changing picture postcard views into the home.

The property was built over two floors with a spacious living space upstairs, which features a formal sitting room, dining room, family room, open plan kitchen, large master bedroom en suite, children’s bedroom with en suite, a guest cloakroom and a large outdoor balcony that enjoys spectacular views of the Willamette River. The downstairs comprises of a playroom, two double guest bedrooms, bathroom, laundry room, a garage with storage and an outdoor patio featuring a Jacuzzi. Authentic leather and linen textures flow throughout the property, Maurizio kept to a minimal palette with micro themes of American culture by using simple organic Native American shapes to classical Texan patterns and fabrics. Classically American in style with native American touches, Maurizio selected natural, sun bleached and tonally complementary colours contrasting with bold geometric patterns that pay homage to Navajo influenced textiles.

Ralph Lauren wicker furniture features throughout the home in organic forms that are complemented by the lighting, which Maurizio personally selected. Furniture and accessories were chosen with elegance and nature in mind, from the Ralph Lauren chairs featuring suede fabric that beautifully contrast with the lacquer finish, to the large wicker baskets and the dining lamps made from raw steel. The exposed stone feature wall in the formal sitting room is an original feature that houses a beautiful wood burning stove, which is a statement in itself and complements the fluidity of nature throughout. Maurizio Pellizzoni embarked on this project by bringing the outside in without breaking the natural synergy with the seasons for a natural living setting.
