Congratulations to Maybourne Hotel Group shortlisted for Hotel Suite – Europe Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2018

design et al are delighted to announce that Maybourne Hotel Group have been shortlisted for Hotel Suite – Europe Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2018.

The Berkeley, tucked away in Wilton Place, is an oasis of calm in the London neighbourhood of Knightsbridge that is home to Harrods and Harvey Nichols. The Berkeley has a strong association with fashion: from the legendary fashion inspired tea, pret-a-portea, to the iconic blue bar. This project involved the full renovation of a junior suite in the Berkeley hotel in Knightsbridge of London. The suite includes a private hallway, an ensuite and a bedroom incorporating a living area. The suite has an area of approx. 580 sq. ft. The location of the suite within the hotel afforded unique views of St. Pauls’ church, and this along with the light had to be maximised whilst still retaining an element of privacy.

The brief was to create a space which is new and refreshing but also in line with the Berkeley’s continuing contemporary regeneration. In terms of atmosphere and spatial qualities, the suite needs to feel contemporary, light, and fresh, luxurious, exude a sense of a “home away from home”, especially as this is a suite category popular for guests for lengthier periods. The suite had to be durable while still maintaining finesse on a level associated with a hotel of such exacting standards. Functionally, it needs to incorporate enhanced bathroom space that incorporates walk-in shower, bath, and double basins with generous space on the vanity unit; as well as all the technological requirements such as USB ports, as well as other functional touches such as night lights, reading lights, as well as generous wardrobe spaces.

The suite is designed with a comprehensive approach to the interior design and interior architectural details, with the aim of creating a suite that speaks of relaxed luxury and a sense of harmony, with fashion elements weaved into the scheme subtly. A base build of fine and most durable wood and stone was used for the interior architectural details, that is balanced with the soft palette of luxurious fabric and wall coverings. The fresh and soft palette, both in hard and soft finishes, creates a sense of calmness and spaciousness, which is complemented by the elegant lines in the bronze and leather elements.
