MD75 by Maxi Dolphin

Maxi Dolphin, in association with Mills Design and Nauta Design, have been shortlisted for Sailing Yacht Award in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2020.

The Maxi Dolphin MD75 by Mills was intended for a passionate owner, an enthusiast windsurfer, kiter, and foil kiter. His request for his very first boat, was for a simple, easy to sail, fast but at the same time comfortable and pleasant yacht, ideal for family living on board.

Based on the owner’s requirements, Mark Mills created this 75 footer, its construction supervised by an experienced project manager. The hull lines are clearly deriving from Mill’s famous racers, but the boat has a simple rig – no backstay or running backstays – a powerful sail plan with a squared top mainsail, a low freeboard, double rudders and a lifting keel. To give it a stronger racing character, Mark Mills opted for a flush deck with all the manoeuvres embedded under the walking plan and reaching back to the steering wheels, enabling the guests to have maximum freedom of movement on board, and a large central cockpit.

Hull, structure, and deck are made of carbon fibre with Core Cell core vacuum laminated and cured at 60° C. All the materials are by Gurit. The Maxi Dolphin MD75 by Mills is particularly light and stiff, thanks to the sandwich-built interiors and to a perfect weight balance, totalling 26 tons for the finished hull. The entire construction was carried out by Maxi Dolphin, that also designed the full on-board systems.

The interiors have a distinct non-minimalist style, warm and pleasant, and are made in open pore oak with a unusual “scratched” finish. The walls and ceilings are combined with slightly curved panels covered in a special fabric resembling linen.

The large master suite at the front, is equipped with a double bed and fitted with wardrobes and storage cabinets. The private bathroom has a double sink and a separate shower.
