design et al are delighted to announce that Mil Design & Construction Sdn Bhd have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Asia Pacific Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.
The brief was to design a luxury home for a client with a family of four. The design style was to highlight understated luxury in the use of materials and space-planning, to portray the client’s status as a high net worth business person. Well defined private and entertainment areas were also crucial to this project, as he constantly entertains his business associates at home. Family-bonding spaces are equally important to spend quality time with family.
The property, which contains three floors, was designed with the main entertainment areas at the ground and lower ground floors with the private areas on the first floor. Guests enter into a charming small lounge dressed in a taupe panelled feature wall and white suede lounge chairs before being led through a uniquely designed picture gallery corridor with photos of the family’s travelling memoirs. They finally arrive at the lavishly styled and spacious dining area which features an 8-pax solid teak dining table and 16 feet open-concept kitchen island/bar. The kitchen and dining space overlooks the double-volume living area beneath and on a good day, guests get to feast over the captivating sunset views beyond the lake.
Guests then continue to the lower ground floor, where a more formal living space was designed with a deep walnut and tinted glass feature wall spanning 25 feet high. Cascading bronze feature lights completed the luxe ambience of the space. A media room adjacent to the living area also served as an entertainment space for the younger crowd to relax. The music room also served as a guest room for visiting guests or relatives and could be transformed into a self-contained residence as a mini pantry, an ensuite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe was designed within the room.
On the 1st floor the more private family space was designed in a casual, laid-back ambience of whites and creams. Featuring customized sofas and poufs this is a space for the family to relax over the weekends or wind down before bed. Each of the bedrooms were designed with a different personalized theme as preferred by the clients. The master bedroom, deemed as the ultimate sanctuary for the client, was designed in a contemporary resort ambience. A reading corner with a chaise longue and mini library was included for winding down. Tinted glass sliding doors led to the ensuite air-conditioned walk-in wardrobe which was then flanked by mirrored-door ceiling high wardrobes and an 8-feet accessory island with tinted glass display drawers.
Mil Design & Construction believe that the design fulfils and enhances the lifestyle of the client as well as his family and addresses many important elements like space functions, living lifestyle, design concepts, well-defined private and entertainment spaces. The house was designed with the right balance of timeless luxe to portray the client’s high net worth status, which was the original brief.
