design et al are delighted to announce that Mokka Design have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – UK Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.
The project involved the renovation of a Grade II Listed three-bedroom property in Knightsbridge. Mokka Design were enlisted for the interior design and interior architecture of the project over the course of a 2-year period.
The design brief entailed the complete renovation of the property in order to appeal to international investors. The aim was to create a timeless property of character by combining traditional elements with contemporary lines and forms. Part of the brief was to retain the listed, internal stone staircase with the metal balustrade that harmoniously connects the different floors. The two guest bedrooms on the ground floor were designed to create a relaxing atmosphere, by using different tones of blue and a pastel colour palette. The artwork complements the colour palette while the bespoke headboards add geometrical lines to the scheme.
An important part of the brief was to create a luxurious yet functional master bedroom taking into consideration the room’s architecture which included a double height area with a pitched roof and 2 skylights. Bronze, leather and wood veneers were used in order to achieve a luxurious and sophisticated scheme with striking architectural glass pendants suspended between the beams. The master bathroom was designed to meet the brief’s request for a highly detailed, spacious and luxurious environment. Stone mosaic was combined with stone slabs, bronze details and wood veneers.
Part of the brief was to create an impressive and sociable dining and sitting area. In the living room, a circular furniture layout with bespoke round sofas was designed to work within a challenging asymmetrical space. The high ceiling offered the opportunity to design an impressive library on which we installed abstract art that enhanced the scheme.
The design works so well thanks to the juxtaposition of the period features and the contemporary elements. The use of mouldings unites the spaces of the property, creating a coherent character. In the powder room, they work with the contemporary stone floor mosaics whilst in the living room, the plasterwork was designed to perfectly complement the bespoke joinery units. The character of the property has been maintained in order to respect its heritage and historic neighbourhood of Knightsbridge.
