NoChintz were appointed by luxury self-catering experts, Natural Retreats, to provide design direction and full interior design for their headline project in John O’Groats, Scotland.

A commitment to British, and where possible Scottish, design formed the centre of NoChintz’s proposals for Natural Retreats and almost all of the furniture and fabrics were sourced from the UK. The team also went a step further in ensuring that the pieces were not just from British designers and companies but were all actually crafted and manufactured in Britain.

Sofas for example were from Yorkshire based Naughtone and upholstered in fabric made on the Isle of Bute. Fabric walls were produced by Scottish based Anta and dining furniture and benches by Another Country. Kitchen appliances, crockery, artwork – even table-mats were all produced in the UK.

The team’s use of the natural surroundings as inspiration; colours for each space for example were dictated by the surrounding Scottish scenery. This gives the accommodation a unique feel and will help end users appreciate the beauty of the location.
