design et al are delighted to announce that Ocean Alexander have been shortlisted for the Power Yacht 25-40 Metres Award in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2019.
In developing the design for the new Ocean Alexander 90R, in partnership with Evan K. Marshall and Arrabito Naval Architects, Ocean Alexander set out to create a yacht that would be innovative and ground-breaking while at the same time remaining true to its Ocean Alexander heritage. Because the shipyard has always been a leader in creating extremely well built and exceptional seakeeping boats, Alexander Marine wanted to maintain that aspect of her DNA while at the same time creating a design that will establish Ocean Alexander as a leader in design innovation.
This forward-thinking finds its expression in the bold exterior styling, with her plumb bow and sweeping fashion board merging into the hardtop, and the modern and spacious interior. The interior features full-height windows in the main salon, a full-beam sky lounge/private house and a glass-enclosed beach club on the transom. In addition, the layout of the 90R offers features and amenities you would find in much larger yachts.
The 90R has the most extensive use of glass in its class with panoramic glass in the sky lounge to wall-to-ceiling glass in the salon. Consequently, this required that in most of the yacht’s spaces Ocean Alexander could not follow the traditional cabinetry installation method of banks of furniture outboard below half hide windows. Instead they had to treat many of the spaces more like a modern penthouse with floor-to-ceiling windows. This meant that furniture had to be separated from the outboard perimeter so as not to block the windows and as a result Ocean Alexander had to come up with a freestanding “floating” furniture style. This new approach is especially evident in the main salon with the floating wet bar and sideboard and the freestanding sofas all of which allow maximise the views out of the full height windows in this space.
Evan K. Marshall took incredible care to meticulously design every detail of the yacht in a way that modernises the product offering, while keeping the hallmarks of Ocean Alexander in the details with wood, joinery work, and stainless details throughout the yacht. The interior design of the new OA 90r was conceived to as be innovative and forward thinking as her new and exciting exterior design. In this respect the shipyard set out to create an entirely new design language for Ocean Alexander which will now be applied to a new series of OA yachts both larger and smaller than the 90r.
