design et al are delighted to announce that Peek Architecture & Bonnie Meredith has been shortlisted for Residential £1-2.5 Million (Project by Value) Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.

Peek Architecture and Bonnie Meredith were enlisted for a full refurbishment of a property located in Holland Park, which was to include a large basement addition, bespoke joinery and a full FF&E package.

The design brief for Peek Architecture and Bonnie Meredith was to create a maximised space for the client and his family which could also be enjoyed by friends and guests. The client required a classic yet modern interior with elements incorporated to portray his well-travelled life. Raw timbers were used with bold colours and mixed with the porcelain tiles and industrial glazing, bespoke joinery and paint effects were used throughout. The palette is warm and original, and the space provides everything that the client required.

Peek Architecture & Bonnie Meredith’s favourite elements of the kitchen in the end, was the choice of long cut oak veneer used and the setting out of the draw fronts, mixed with the recycled concrete top. The warmth of the oak and industrial nature of the concrete complement each other well. The concrete top folds down at each end, to give an architectural feel to the kitchen.

Peek Architecture believe that designers and architects should design for longevity and stay true to the buildings being inhabited, this was an important consideration when looking to increase the space for this property and ensuring that any new elements would fit into the wider environment. The basement spaces need less heating and cooling and are largely unseen so they are a modest intervention but can double the size of a property.
