Tell us a little about your background in design:
Following my graduation from the UCL Bartlett School of Architecture , I have worked in London since 2000.

As Associate Partner at Foster + Partners for more than 8 years, I was project lead for a number of high profile projects including the Grade II listed Apple Store on Regents Street, London. I contributed to numerous innovation initiatives for the Apple stores all over the world including bespoke interior and furniture design.

How would you describe your personal design style?
I do not subscribe to a particular style. Each project is the unique response to its site, context restraints and user needs and it is the result of a collaborative process and exchange of ideas.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
My design inspiration is the direct product of my experiences and passions combined with my architectural training and social influences. Being connected to the wider world feeds my artistic imagination and design inspiration.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
Design is moving fast towards responding to growing environmental issues and maximising energy efficiency.

Moreover, the awareness that flexibility and adapting to new circumstances that are not yet known is a key consideration.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2020 and beyond.

  • Reformation and rehabilitation of existing buildings
  • Open plan and multipurpose spaces to suit users’ needs
  • Connection to the outdoors and wellbeing
  • Sustainable design and move towards passive home standards as a way of life
  • Intuitive architecture

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
My best advice would be not to feel restricted by what you think is possible and always try to question and challenge the perceived boundaries of design and construction.
