Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)

I grew up in a household centered around beautiful design and architecture, so awareness of good design has always been a part of me. After college, I started buying and renovating homes in my own time and really enjoyed the experience and effort. After several years in a corporate career, I decided to redirect my efforts towards my love or architecture and design and I started M. Frederick Design. Since starting the company, we have designed homes, interiors and landscapes for clients all around the world.

How would you describe your personal interior design style?

I would describe my style as American with European influences. I apply this filter to both traditional and modern interiors alike.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

Everywhere. I love taking classic design elements and refining them and reinterpreting them in fresh ways and in ways that suit the project brief.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

I feel design is moving towards a broader and broader audience. Every new advance in communication and technology seems to open the door of luxurious, beautiful design to more and more people.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2018 and beyond.

Plan, plan, plan, plan, and plan. As more and more people look to incorporate fine design into their lives, it is imperative that the proper attention be given to the evaluation and planning of the process to ensure the best outcome.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to interior design schemes, what would it be?

Plan, plan, plan, plan, plan.

How important are The International Design and Architecture Awards as recognition of talent and achievement?

The IDAA are very important to the recognition of the calibre and quality of the architecture and design services we provide to our clients. The independent nature of the voting reflects the validity of the awards as a reference for quality and excellence in the design world.

What projects are you currently working on?

M. Frederick Design are currently working on a the design and construction of an 11-acre family compound, a Manhattan Penthouse, and the design of a modern county house, among other things.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
