Tell us a little about your background in design:
Rosen Aviation have been designing world-class cabin electronics for nearly 40 years. Our engineers and design team come from diverse backgrounds including DreamWorks, Xerox, Defence, consumer goods as well as lifelong aviation experts. Rosen’s team includes our partners, KiPCreating and Sky-Style and embodies the very essence of a self-directed, mission-driven collaborative work-group.

How would you describe your personal design style?
Rosen Aviation’s core goal is always to optimize function, with form seamlessly blended into the overall environment. Our technologies exist specifically to deliver new and exceptional solutions.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
Our design inspiration comes from principles within Bauhaus design: leveraging cutting-edge technology to create passenger experiences never seen before; continually striving to do more with less; and smart use of resources achieving precision in execution.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
New technologies and materials are allowing a more seamless and sophisticated aesthetic with designs that were not previously possible. User experience and technology is driving design.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2020 and beyond.
Stimulating the five senses.
Sophistication in simplicity.
Creating a more personalized experience.
Technology that’s there when you need it, invisible when you don’t.
Invoking connection – with passengers, technology, crew and the world around you.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
Does it add value?

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
Working with Sky-Style and integrating unique technologies with unique design that brings unprecedented result

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
Trying to change an industry rooted in convention, in proposing design begins with R&D aligned with vision. Existing vendor and supplier relationships are anything but partnerships, much better to share a common vision that drives alignment throughout the project.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?
Google research. 3D/VR modelling. There’s no substitute for actually being in the air!

How important are The International Yacht & Aviation Awards?
For too long, cabin electronics have been undervalued. The IYA Awards can help us reframe how Rosen can create a better passenger experience

What projects are you currently working on?
Holographic control with haptic feedback, next-generation displays beyond OLED, smart surfaces with predictive A.I., virtual windows with A.R.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
Rosen Aviation is investing heavily in R&D and new product development to come out of COVID with ground-breaking new technologies.

Final thoughts; tell us a little more about yourself and your daily inspirations:

Your most treasured possession?
Ducati Panigale V4S the ultimate combination of technology and style on two-wheels.

Your favourite holiday destination?
High on a cliff-side, deep in the Wind River Range, mountains of Wyoming.

Your favourite hotel, restaurant & bar?
Alberto’s, Bariloche, Argentina. THE best steaks on the planet, bar none.

Your favourite book, film & song?
Jonathon Livingston Seagull, Richard Bach – book
Top Gun – film
Take Five, Dave Brubeck – song

Your favourite food and drink?
Fresh dived scallops with Cloudy Bay, NZ, Sauvignon Blanc.

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?
Riding my Ducati down a deserted country road as fast as possible.

If you weren’t in the Aviation industry, where would you be?
I see myself more as a business leader. If I could start again I would have continued rally car racing.

Anything else interesting?
How long have you got! From climbing mountains to racing cars and motorcycles I find passion in everything I do.
