René Dekker Design Limited will compete for the residential £2.5-5 million award in the International Design and Architecture Awards 2013, with an elegant mansion flat in Kensington.
Design brief: “This was a full refurbishment to a listed building and required a scholarly approach in order to conform to its historical status. We worked closely with the client, project manager and the architect on the final interior design which included several new bathrooms, bespoke joinery, new decorative and task lighting, new kitchen, plumbing, heating and wiring.
“Fire surrounds were carefully picked from the Chesneys Antique collection, mouldings were painstakingly restored and doors were faithfully reproduced, creating a contemporary homage to the apartment’s glorious past. Decorations included specialist plaster finishes as well as linen and grass cloth wall coverings. The project was completed with a full furnishings fit out which included window treatment, soft furnishings, furniture, art and accessories.
“This is a statement home with input by each member of the family for their own spaces. The use of the same floor throughout mixed with unique pieces in the different areas has created an eclectic yet fluid space.”
