Rosa May Sampaio has been shortlisted for the City Space/Penthouse Apartment award in the International Design & Architecture Awards 2015.

The property is a duplex penthouse on Sao Conrado Beach, in Rio de Janeiro, with magnificent views of the mountains, forests and the ocean. The interior architect transformed the space into a harmonious first floor with a big living room, a dining room, a library, kitchen and housemaids quarters. The upper floor was redesigned to fit into two spacious bedrooms, en suite and three closets. One of the favorite spots in the apartment, the home theatre leads to a big terrace with a bar, swimming pool and dining area, perfect for the couple’s needs.

Redesigning the apartment’s interior spaces was a challenging task as the owner had just closed her apartments in Paris and New York and a big house in the mountains of Rio. Mixing different furniture and works of art from her previous homes ultimately allowed a great mix of excellent objects and combinations, prioritizing the comfort of the owner with enough space and good lighting favoring a practical lifestyle of someone who likes to travel a lot but when in Rio likes to stay home a lot.
