design et al are delighted to announce that Roy Azar Architects have been shortlisted for Hotel Suite – Global Award in The International Hotel & Property Awards 2019.
This luxury hotel suite is part of a 10-suite boutique hotel located on the upper level of Dôce 18 Concept House in the colonial town of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The hotel was restored and remodelled from an 18th century traditional Mexican property which is protected by Historical and Preservation Office.
The brief for the hotel suites was for clean lines with an airy and upmarket atmosphere. For Roy Azar Architects, an architectural and interior design firm based in Mexico City, white was the main theme at L’ôtel suites, with strokes of different colours between the rooms. The suites are almost made to feel spa like with their consistency and due to all of them having showers and outdoor baths.
Colonial and contemporary architecture were combined in this project to maintain the house history and bringing it to our present. The hotel is intended to integrate into the local environment but also to project a luxury and elegant boutique hotel. The design perfectly reflects the city it is built in, promoting local economy and ecology shortening travel distances from the workshop to the final project.
In this suite and the hotel in general, there is a clean and elegant balance between the architecture, design and the curated collection of furniture pieces, art and objects. The key aspect for Roy Azar Architects were the contrasts between contemporary and colonial architecture using craftmanship that enriches the cultural aspects of the destination.
