Jean-Marc Eynaud Architects have achieved further shortlist success in the International Hotel & Property Awards 2014. The Prince Maurice Hotel in Mauritius has been shortlisted for the ‘Hotel 50-200 rooms’ Award.
Exclusive 5 star resort hotel blending in a unique tropical setting with large beach frontages and inner mangrove lagoons. The hotel had to be laid out to make maximum use of the unique features of a site with large beach frontages and inner lagoons with protected mangroves.
The main building had to be designed with a very strong visual axis to give a prestigious look to the whole set up. The design of the entrance creates a strong sense of arrival to the guests. The long walk from the drop off to the main Hall with spectacular view over the infinity pool and onto the sea flanked by reflecting pools creates a unique atmosphere.
The main Hall, Restaurant and Bars are laid out in a U shape around the main pool. The extensive use of water features and natural materials such as stone, timber, granite & thatch give the building a strong tropical atmosphere well adapted to Mauritius. The accommodation consists of 76 Junior Suites, 12 villas and a Princely Suite.
Some of the suites are built on stilts on the lagoon around the protected mangroves while others on the beach front. The villas have been designed with their own private pool & outside bath tub. The princely suite consists of 2 junior suites and one senior suite villa with a central courtyard, outside Living Room and 2 swimming pools. A ‘Spa’ is designed around a central courtyard with spacious treatment rooms with their own private courtyards. The facilities also include a gymnasium, squash court and sauna as well as a Kid’s Club.
