Ken Freivokh Design has achieved further shortlist success in the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2014. Mikhail S Vorontsov will compete for the Sailing Yacht Award.

Mikhail S Vorontsov is the world’s largest laminated wood yacht. She is a traditional three-masted schooner which incorporates the latest technology.

The design was developed in harmony and in a timeless classical style which echoes the nautical atmosphere and values reminiscent of the period when indeed all yachts were built in this way. The external styling, with voluptuous radii and sculptural separation of mahogany and mirror gloss white planes is echoed by the interior paneling and impressive mahogany furniture with sparkling accents of mother of pearl.

Scrolls and other details were all custom developed specifically for Vorontsov, and adorn her beautiful carvings and shapes, both at the stern and the bow sections terminating with a most elegant bowsprit. Her carefully considered proportions, layout and detail will unquestionably challenge all stereotype preconceptions about both sailing yachts and wood technology. She boasts impressive volume for her length and a quite unique layout which includes owner quarters aft with a private owner deckhouse, a guest accommodation flat linked to a very handsome central deckhouse with panoramic views, and efficient crew quarters leading to their own separate deckhouse.

There is a feeling of peaceful quietness and solidity, the combination of the construction, insulation and robust, purposeful and elegant internal space, proportions and details. Lower deck circulation leads efficiently to elegant stairs capped by an array of prisms at main deck saloon level, emphasising vertical spacial integration, continuity of line and long sightlines which enhance the feeling of space and proportion.
