design et al are delighted to announce that The Stephen B. Jacobs Group, PC have achieved further shortlist success in the International Hotel & Property Awards 2014 with their project, Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel shortlisted for the Hotel Design Award – North & South America.
This new 18-story boutique hotel consisting of 249 keys is located at the corner of Park Avenue South and 29th Street.
The hotel’s base consists of honed and polished dark granite framing sections of three-story glass curtain wall. Above the third floor, the facades are bronze colored metal panels and floor-to-ceiling windows. The corner of the building features a 150-foot tall glass column containing colour changing light emitting diodes. While the materials are contemporary, the colour of the façade blends with its neighbours during the daytime. At night, the corner glass column brings a touch of colour and excitement to the neighbourhood.
The lobby of the hotel is a dramatic three-story space with a herringbone black and white granite floor, oversized plum coloured chandeliers and fireplace, and Venetian plaster walls. The ground floor also consists of a 10,000 sf glassfronted restaurant, bar, and retail space. The third floor houses 3,500 sf of pre-function and ballroom spaces, as well as a spa, fitness room, sauna, and hair salon.
The typical hotel floors have generously proportioned guestrooms and corner suites, many with balconies, four-post beds, comfortable seating and work areas, with pops of colour such as the fuchsia drapery. The guestroom spa-like bathrooms include glass tile walls, a trough sink, and separate glass enclosed shower and soaking tub. The hotel’s duplexed Presidential Suite includes a two-story high living room with glass curtain wall, a covered outdoor terrace overlooking Park Avenue, a master bedroom suite on the upper level, and the flexibility to connect to two additional bedrooms from the main living space. Sensual artwork is integrated throughout the hotel on walls and tabletops.
The top three floors of the building, open to the public, contain bars, the Red Room and Blue Room hospitality suites, a heated indoor-outdoor pool, and roof decks with unobstructed views of the Empire State Building. Just as Gansevoort’s first location in the Meatpacking District is credited with spurring the neighbourhood’s transition from gritty to chic, Gansevoort Park aspires to invigorate this corridor of the city. This new urban resort promises an uptown experience with a downtown vibe, while elevating the public rooftop to new heights.
