Shortlisted: Darma’s London Kitchen over £25,000 project

Darma Ltd. have found success again, with another of their beautiful kitchen projects. This project was shortlisted for the ‘Kitchen Over £25,000’ category in the International Design & Architecture Awards 2013

The kitchen had to have a very clean, minimalist feel. Keeping it simple and unobtrusive but with wow factor. The client wanted to have natural stone surfaces, but something which would not stain easily. The key component of the client brief was to create more working space behind the cabinet doors.

The kitchen is located at one end of a spacious open plan dining and living space that looks out over the garden.

Modern kitchens are very personal spaces and often the most inhabited room in the house.

The kitchen was designed to be the centrepiece of the house and so hence the high quality materials such as natural wood and stone. The main feature is a black stone island, which is matched by a custom designed overhead extractor and lighting box.

The island accommodates appliances such as dishwasher, black hob and a custom made stone sink with black kitchen tap which blends with the work surface.

With large appliances such as fridge, freezer and large amounts of general pantry storage located in a wall of full-height cupboards ranged along the rear wall.

With walls of full-height sliding glass panels, an abundance of natural light is allowed into the kitchen surrounding this open space which doubles the kitchen and dining area in summer when both sets of doors are open.
