Shortlisted for the Hotel over 200 Rooms Award in the International Hotel and Property Awards 2013, the Epic Sana, Lisbon, is a 5-star business hotel.
The hotel design stems from its urban roots with a volumetric and functional integration with the neighbouring environment. Due to the rather long frontage (near 110 meters) the choice of a split facade allows for the better relation of each block with its adjacent neighbour. A glazed tower with panoramic lifts works as a transitional hinge between the two volumes. This enables the hotel to naturally blend with the heights of the abutting buildings, lower on the eastern side, taller on the western.
At street level the design extends the transparency of the central tower through a double height fully glazed ground floor and mezzanine areas, on one hand allowing visitors and passerby people to glimpse into the magnificent entrance and lounge areas as well as offering a unique sensation to the incoming guest as he enters an incredibly spacious lobby area. Enhancing the double-height grand lobby, a lounge and oval-shaped bar with retro lighting is the main central feature. Around it several seating areas on a raised level give access to a garden esplanade, a true urban oasis. At mezzanine level, the ‘Flor de Lis’ restaurant overviews the grand lobby and invites guests to come up and enjoy. This floor also provides access to a Business Center with corporate and VIP rooms for outstanding events.
Below lobby level yet with ample direct daylight, a multi purpose area with a huge ballroom which can be either subdivided into smaller gathering rooms or turned into a gigantic open space. One level down and still with natural daylight, a complete Spa for enjoyment and relaxation. 311 rooms and suites fill the upper floors. At roof level, a magnificent pool with ‘infinity edge’, water cascading down to the level below where a panoramic bar and lounge invites guests to socialize as well as private events.
