HC2 Interior Architecture have been successfully shortlisted for the Restaurant within a Hotel Award at the 2015 International Hotel & Property Awards. Their project ‘Seminyak Italian at Double Six Hotel’, an 80 seat contemporary trattoria overlooking the ocean. The designers worked with artists both international and local to create a warm contemporary space. Seminyak Italian was conceived as a modern trattoria, a relaxed neighbourhood vibe that would attract both local residents, in house guests and tourists.
The key design challenge was the C shaped space on the mezzanine level. As designers we had to ensure that we maximized the ocean views whilst creating intimate dining spaces in the areas that overlooked the mezzanine level. The solution was to create bales that cantilever over the front of the building giving uninterrupted views of the ocean whilst providing additional dining space. The idea of the bales is carried over to the inside with four bales hovering over the mezzanine level.
We wanted to create a sense of theatre within the space making the Campari bar central to the main viewing area. We wanted to create a sense of theatre with the antipasti and wine cabinets flanking the bar and a pasta making room allows customers to view the chefs at work. Colours of the Italian flag were referenced in soft furnishings in a playful and non contrived way. Custom made Parmesan lights hang over the tables.
We worked with Australian and Bali based artists to create unique art pieces. Steve Ormandy’s large murals can be seen from the lobby of the hotel and custom circular stairways transition between the hotel lobby and the intimate and welcoming restaurant space above.
The amazing artworks and the beautiful Campari bar at the core of the restaurant perfect for admiring a Balinese sunset. It’s a great blend of amazing food, service and design. A warm and inviting space that is a feast for the senses.
