Yasava Solutions SA have been successfully shortlisted in the International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2014 with their project “ASTRAL TM Design Series – Monte Carlo 2 – Bombardier Global 6000 Aircraft” entering the Private Aviation Interior Design Concept category.
Interior Designers: Christopher Mbanefo (Chief Designer), Ascanio Malgarini, Anke Achenbach
The ASTRAL TM Design changes the flight experience on ultra-long range corporate aircraft, by uniqely reflectling the life-style requirements of the client.
Whereas airline First Class travel has evolved positively since the 1960s, physical ergonomics in corporate aviation has lagged behind. Not only have cabin layouts remained unchanged, they are largely identical across aircraft types (Gulfstreams, Globals, Falcons, Legacy). Surprisingly, their seats are still mechanical. Hence, First Class travel in premium airlines in modern aircraft like the A380 or B777 aircraft is a vastly superior flight experience compared to a trip with four or more passengers in a fifty million dollar-plus jet. What can be expected in a premium First Class (full flat electric seats, freshly prepared food, a private cabin / suite, optional shower), or in a 10 million dollar Yacht, remains largely unavailable for such private jets. This paradox questions the price-value proposition for a fifty million dollar jet.
The Design Brief was to address this paradox and come up with a solution that:
- Meets the ergonomic requirements for fourteen plus hour corporate flights for four VIP passengers, and up to four support staff.
- Reflects the client’s life-style.
- Is inspired by Yacht Design to reproduce visual associations of comfort and emotions of the Meditarenean Sea.
- Is designed to be implemented and certified in a Bombardier Global 6000 aircraft.
The key to the ASTRAL TM Design is the exclusive usage of the full flat, fully electric aïanaTM seat, which is managed by the aï-zen TM remote control jewel. Both are designed and developed by YASAVA. This ASTRAL TM design is called “MONTE CARLO 2”.
The design language of the seat and the cabin as a complementary and organic system, while meeting the four points of the Design Brief. This includes the VIP Day Lounge in the aft cabin that converts into a fully private bedroom with double bed. The optional staff cabin addresses SCI requirements in emerging markets.
Variation in aircraft interior design in this category of corporate jets is usually restricted to textiles, leathers, materials, veneers, carpets and cushion design. YASAVA approached this totally differently (life-style architecture), and the result is stunningly different.
Contemporary Yacht Designers have a lot to show and teach Aircraft Designers. These awards are a great catalyst in this regard. The “Monte Carlo 2” version of the ASTRAL TM Design fits this precept nicely.
The ASTRAL TM Design was launched last year in Geneva at EBACE 2013. The program is in the detail design / implementation phase, while the aïana seat is currently undergoing certification for both classic long range corporate jets, as well as Boeing BBJs and Airbus ACJs. YASAVA will be exhibiting other design versions of the ASTRAL TM Design at EBACE 2014 in Geneva.
Announced during the Singapore Air Show in Feb-3013, RUAG Aviation has joined YASAVA as its designated completion center for the ASTRAL TM Design for Bombardier Global, and Dassault Falcon 7X aircraft.
