Congratulations to Sian Baxter Lighting who have been shortlisted for Lighting Scheme Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2019

design et al are delighted to announce that  Sian Baxter Lighting have been shortlisted for Lighting Scheme Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.

This project involved the conversion of an historic gunnery perched on a cliff edge above Deal into a contemporary high-end residential property. The design brief for Sian Baxter Lighting was to incorporate a lighting scheme for the interior of the house as well as the facades, the garden and the driveway.

The scheme used a lot of concealed linear lighting (to wash walls and blinds and to create features in many of the rooms), up lights, down lights, floor washers and carefully selected decorative pendants and wall lights.  One of Sian Baxter Lighting’s favourite aspects of the scheme is the lighting of the long narrow corridors (that have no natural light) with a combination of downlights and a unique ceiling light that creates loops of light.  The designer also particularly liked the use of the recessed linear light in the ceiling of the kitchen that exactly mirrored the shape of the island. All the light was LED that had a high CRI and a colour temperature of 2700K.

The client wanted a striking lighting scheme that was highly contemporary and energy efficient.  He felt that good lighting was critical for this property especially as some of the rooms had no natural light as they were set deep into the cliff. The property was originally an old gunnery that was perched on the edge of a cliff.  Over a period of 3 years it was converted into a spectacular James Bond style residential home.
