It is with great pleasure that design et al announce the further shortlist for Studio Tesei in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2015. This home-studio is located in the historical Roman center of Milan. This building fills an urban void, extending in depth on its original Gothic lot and with its main front set in direct relation to the Renassiance church of Santa Maria alla Porta. The various floors are connected vertically by a single stair.
The bright kitchen was originally conceived as a conservatory in which the cedar wood top interprets nature. There is an interesting game of light and shade of the Cor-ten steel bris-soleil which has been laser cut to the shape of a tree. The furniture is custom made by Antonella Tesei.
The dialogue with history is reflected in combining contemporary design pieces with memories of the past such as old family furnishing and paintings. There has indeed been a great attention to details and finishes within this project.
