Congratulations to Susan Strauss Design shortlisted for Living Space – Global Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2018

design et al are delighted to announce that Susan Strauss Design have been shortlisted for Living Space – Global Award within The International Design and Architecture Awards 2018.

The design scheme employed by Susan Strauss Design in the N Residence is richly varied; it is a symphony of colours and textures which combine harmoniously. Utilizing luxuriantly textured yet neutral toned wallcoverings throughout, carefully curated colour choices, and beautiful accent furniture, Susan allowed the statement pieces in the home to do the talking, while achieving the overall relatable elegance the clients were after.

The dining room fixture is the first piece to catch the eye upon entry. Its dimensional layers create a striking, mysterious shape. The scale is large enough to make a statement, yet it flows with the rest of the home. The dining table is finished in a luxurious blue-grey wood, with brass clad circular cut-outs in the bases. The bespoke credenza has modern, yet elegant finishes, with hardware mimicking the shape in the dining table bases. Brass framed commissioned art is mounted over the unit. The adjacent living room has a large inset rug in the centre, soft toned with subtle striation. A marble fireplace surround is at the core of the space. The Italian seating has delicately curved edges, and is finished in inviting fabrics; it strikes a bright balance between the formal and approachable. Ceiling coffers which were designed with a subtle, restrained eye, and floor to ceiling drapery complement the classic undertones in the rooms.

The home office is a study of complementary finishes and colours. Bespoke wall to wall joinery is clad in wood veneers with brass accents. Deep blue leathers, textiles, and high gloss paint add interest and a contemporary feel to the room. Nearby, the family room has zebra-esque carpeting, and black high lacquer trim on the ceiling and windows. The bright and modern lounge with its long leather sofa is the perfect escape for the children. A key aspect of the project was making sure the family’s child with special needs was comfortable and happy at home. Seeing the child’s face light up when entering the bedroom, featuring a custom hand painted world map across the headboard wall was the perfect end to this design story.

The carefully curated finishes, furnishings, and design features work in tangent to create elegance which is understated, yet beautiful. Every element softly exudes luxury, in an approachable, family-friendly manner.
