design et al are delighted to announce that The Lakes by Yoo / Kathryn Levitt Design/ Gaunt Francis Architects & Coln Park Lake Construction have been shortlisted for Living Space – UK Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2019.
The brief for this project was to create an exceptional interior that would provide a wonderful holiday home for the owners, their young family and guests. The interior was to be chic, elegant and glamorous yet still practical with cosy spaces in which to unwind and relax ‘away from the crowd’. It was crucial for the owners that the interior design complement the surrounding nature and stunning lake views on which the plot sits.
The designer’s first objective was achieved by the amazing sense of arrival into the entrance hall with stunning sweeping feature staircase in bronze that beautifully sets the tone of what is to follow. The entrance hall opens up into a massive open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area taking full advantage of the high ceilings, yet with all furniture and lighting pieces perfectly scaled to the environment for both day-to-day practical use and entertaining guests.
The layout of the property is beautifully designed to provide quiet haven spaces for the family and guests to retreat, with each space having its own unique feel yet in a style that speaks the same design language. As you would expect with a property of this ilk, the design incorporates all of the latest audio-visual technology throughout as well as fabulous features to wow your guests such as the spiral wine cellar with automated glass lid sunk some three metres into the polished concrete floor.
The interiors have really hit the brief as the relationship between the spaces and the material palette create a language that links the house as a whole to make it a home whilst still having features that are unexpected and unusual. The design exudes relaxation and escapism whilst the luxury finishes are complemented by some surprising elements.
