Congratulations to TSAR Carpets shortlisted for Flooring – Carpet/Rug Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2019

design et al are delighted to announce that TSAR Carpets have been shortlisted for Flooring – Carpet/Rug in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2019.

From the outback to the coast, from mountain summits to raw earth, Stralis is a celebration of uniquely Australian terrain.  TSAR hand-tufted collections drawing inspiration from new and interesting textures/surfaces, the natural environment and modern design influences. The Stralis Collection will focus on details unique to Australia, a true homage to the country’s beauty.

This collection follows the success of the Mineral Collection and will be a further exploration into sedimentary layers, meandering tones and landscapes. Taking inspiration from natural rock, plant and earth formations that are uniquely Australian.

The collection preserves the life and energy of its inspirations whilst refining lines and textures to translate into soft, contemporary textiles. The design company saw an opportunity to translate the wild and untamed into distinctive, timeless designs that focus on what makes Australia so unique – it’s natural environment. This allowed TSAR Carpets to discover new translations of texture and elements through complex hand-tufting techniques, multiform stipple combinations and careful colour combinations.

They saw a focus on new textures and colour combinations within the design community and wanted to use our love for playful experimentation to create a collection to reflect that – but with a twist.

New Zealand Wool is the primary fibre used through the rugs. NZ Wool is a renewable fibre, using far less resources ie. water, sun and grass, requiring less energy to produce than synthetic fibres. TSAR Carpets own the manufacturing facility of the product and have established an onsite filtration plant for the primary filtration of excess dye that then gets channelled to a government-based water filtration plant. The reporting of the monitoring of the filtration plant is very strict and a regular weekly basis of the activity.
