Virserius Studio

W Atlanta Midtown Hotel by Virserius Studio

Virserius Studio  have been shortlisted for Hotel Suite Award (Americas & Caribbean) in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2020.

This project tells the story of eclectic fictional character “Arthur”. Virserius Studio reconfigured the guestrooms to be more open and three-dimensional so guests can relax and entertain. The bedrooms evoke softness and tranquillity while providing punches of colour, transporting visitors to another place. They also offer subtle nods to Atlanta’s natural beauty, with trees that are native to Georgia. The custom ombre carpet signifies the blue sky, getting paler until you get to tiles that are a warm grey.

The idea for the suites was to treat visitors to a layered art experience with different graphics, sculptures and installations. The wall in the main area was cut in the shape of the letter W, opposite this guests may notice the burglars coming out of the vents and as guests begin to unpack in the open closet, they will find a man walking on top of their luggage, with notes falling from above.

The art pays homage to Atlanta as the epicentre of music and entertainment. A mural directly applied on the wall is made of mirrored dibond in the shape of an old record with musical notes floating outward. Back in the bedroom, six mounted photos line the walls: a man taking a picture (Arthur himself?), a film reel (honouring Atlanta’s booming film industry), a cheerleader and football players (a nod to Georgia’s huge football culture).

Another surprising moment and the highlight of the premier suites is the “King Chair” located along the hallway leading to the bathroom, inviting guests to feel like royalty. The chair is set against wall covering created to look like a greenhouse, with its design tying in cohesively to the other abstract birdcages and botanical spaces throughout the hotel.

The bedrooms are a love letter to the city Arthur calls home. Atlanta boasts one of the busiest airports in the world and is also at the forefront of music, entertainment and art. The incorporation of these elements throughout the rooms invite quests to learn more about this vibrant place.
