Heralding a new era of modern luxury, Waldrop + Nichols took charge of the renovation of Hotel Crescent Court which evokes a boutique level of luxury, while remaining charming and welcoming.
Hotel Crescent Court, a Dallas architectural icon originally designed by Pritzker-winning architect Philip Johnson, underwent a $33-million renovation encompassing a restoration of all public spaces and a full redesign of the 195 luxury guest rooms and 31 suites, including a 3,000 square foot Grand Presidential Suite.
Dallas based interior design firm Waldrop + Nichols studio methodically researched the history, culture, and character of the classical neo-French property and its surrounding neighbourhood to create a design narrative that properly honours the heritage of the hotel, while blending modern European luxury and elegance with impeccable Texas hospitality.
Energetic and sophisticated seating groups create an elegant living room, adding drama to the stately interior architecture. A 2,000 year-old marble sculpture of the Greek god Aesculapius is pointedly showcased beneath an array of custom sculptural acrylic clouds that gracefully suspend from the ceiling, creating a cloud-like feature that spans the entire length of the lobby. The custom sculpture adds drama, movement and a dynamic feature to the lobby.
Beyond the stone clad walls of the bold lobby, the understated and muted palette of the guest rooms and corridors creates a private retreat of refined timelessness. Evoking a boutique level of quality, the avant-garde inspired design draws cues from the framework of haute couture ideals and silhouettes of fashion, reflecting the ability to appreciate sensibilities of style. Curved mill work, bespoke furnishings and a clean, sophisticated bathroom join to reflect flawless simplicity. The design marries the traditional and iconic architecture with a more modern approach to the interior, seamlessly blending the two styles into one design vocabulary. The end result is undeniable charm that is quintessentially Texas layered with modern luxury.
