ZZ Architects have been short listed for the Residential £10 million plus award

ZZ Architects have been short listed for the Residential £10 million plus award in the International Design & Architecture Awards 2013 with a contemporary apartment project in Mumbai.

This apartment is located in one of the most premium areas of Mumbai. The client’s requirement was to capture the refinement of a luxury home in the interior space of this apartment, which had to be designed, built and delivered to them in a span of 4 months. This commission allowed us to display characteristic flavors of our work style and integrate it with prestigious array of contemporary Indian art and sculpture.

The bespoke dining table is customized on site in Marble and synthetic glass. It is lit from the base, which lends a floating feel to the space. The hanging chandelier imparts visual drama with its metallic reflections.

Considering that it is located at the 31st floor, which is the highest floor, this home offers a panoramic view of the city’s changing skyline. The pace of the project was very critical as the client is a well-known corporate leader and wanted to see the home finished soon. The first thing was to get an overall scheme defined keeping in mind the stringent timeline and our meticulous outlook towards quality, fit and finish.

The sculpture by Valay Shende was a unique reference to our client’s outlook towards his work and commitment. The ‘Indian Dabbawalas (Tiffin Boys)’ are a part of world history for their organisational skills and are always on time. The same is represented by the presence of almost a 100 working watches on this golden sculpture with stomachs of gold hanging instead of the tiffins on their cycle. The last supper artwork on canvas is a limited edition print, photographed by artist Vivek Vilasini. This is a lovely stroke of color along the back wall overlooking the entire space. The selection of all the furniture was made in a single trip to Europe. The multiplicity of the pieces of furniture adds a sense of depth, and the lighting a visual appeal and direction to the space.

The master bedroom entrance overlooks an installation customized by ZZ Architects on site. The client had an enormous collection of boarding passes from his travels across the globe, so we decided to design a window replicating the proportions of the Boeing Dream liner for him. There is a cloudy sky and light cotton on which his passes literally stay afloat.
